Gloucester-based Barnwood Limited has promoted three long-standing employees to director roles within its construction arm, as the division continues to deliver major regional and national projects.
Paul Fowles has been named construction director, Will Steel becomes commercial director, and Dylan Hill takes the role of estimating director.
All three joined Barnwood five years ago or more and step up from senior positions within the business.
Founded in 1962, Barnwood operates through three divisions – Construction, Shopfitting & Interiors and General Works – under group chief executive Simon Carey.
The company, which employs 215 staff, recorded a turnover of approximately £103m last year. The Construction division accounted for more than £75m of that figure, delivering projects ranging between £5m and £20m in value.
Recent Gloucestershire schemes include a Veterinary Nursing and Technical Skills Centre at Hartpury University, the European headquarters for Spectrum Medical in Staverton, and the Great Oldbury Community Centre. Live schemes include new facilities for Renishaw in Wotton under Edge, a children’s services building in Stroud, and a sports complex at Pittville School in Cheltenham, currently at pre-construction stage.
Further afield, Barnwood has delivered schemes at Milton Park in Oxfordshire, Bird World in Farnham, and Bristol Airport.
Fowles, 52, previously worked for a local contractor for 27 years and joined Barnwood as a contracts manager.
He said the company’s culture of staff development and client collaboration “was instilled 63 years ago and it still is now”.
Steel, 36, and formerly a senior quantity surveyor, said his team’s flexible approach was key to winning repeat work. He added: “As new directors, our aim is to keep progressing where the previous directors left off – we owe it to them and the founders.”
Hill, 53, joined Barnwood from Southwest Joinery 19 years ago and worked his way up from estimator. He said the new leadership team was focused on growing internal talent and keeping pace with industry trends.
Barnwood Construction Division joint managing directors Stuart Pearce and Dave Piper said they were “especially pleased” that the appointments had come from within the company.
