Director of the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Office of Cosmetics and Colors (OCAC), Linda Katz M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., announced her intention to retire on January 11, 2025. She has served at the FDA for over 22 years.
Fragrance Creators Association’s (FCA) President and CEO Farah K. Ahmed honored her legacy with the following statement.
“Dr. Katz’s values-driven leadership has been transformative. Her efforts at FDA have advanced fragrance science and addressed critical issues like fragrance allergen safety in cosmetics, enhancing consumer safety through robust scientific assessments and industry and public education. She was instrumental in preparing the groundwork for key regulatory advancements, including the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA), which reflects her commitment to ensuring that regulatory frameworks evolve to meet the needs of modern consumers and industries. She played a pivotal role in FDA activities to educate stakeholders about fragrance allergens, fostering better understanding and collaboration across the fragrance value chain. Her tenure has been a testament to the idea that science is not only a tool for compliance but a means to foster trust and deliver meaningful contributions to society.”
Prashiela Manga, Ph.D., has been named Acting Director of OCAC. Manga will continue to focus on advancing science-based regulations.
He has years of experience and expertise in the role and aims to ensure a smooth transition.
