PGA Tour, LIV Golf Showdown to feature David Feherty, Charles Barkley

The ‘Crypto.com Showdown’ will feature Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler taking on Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, but this high-profile match will also include iconic broadcasters.

Long-time golf announcer David Feherty, who also spent a decade hosting an eponymous show on Golf Channel, will join Charles Barkley, Trevor Immelman, Bubba Watson, and legendary host Ernie Johnson on the telecast, according to Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal.

The Showdown will air on TNT on Tuesday, December 17, at 6 p.m. ET, with the ultra-exclusive Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas playing host. This event has already drawn comparisons to TNT’s “The Match,” which has produced numerous iterations over the past half-decade. Tiger Woods squared off against Phil Mickelson in the first Match in 2018, also held at Shadow Creek. The comparisons do not stop there, however. Johnson, Immelman, Barkley, and Watson have played massive roles in Match broadcasts before, including the most recent edition, which featured eight high-profile celebrities, such as Wayne Gretzky, Tom Brady, and Billy Murray. Barkley also played before joining the broadcast.

Nevertheless, Feherty’s presence is the most notable difference for the Showdown telecast. After a nearly 25-year career calling PGA Tour events on CBS and NBC, he joined LIV Golf in 2022. He calls the action on LIV alongside former Premier League announcer Arlo White and former PGA Tour player Jerry Foltz.
