Tiger Woods admitted the obvious after his Jupiter Links Golf Club took a drubbing in their TGL debut on Tuesday.
“My game is not very good,” he said.
The Los Angeles Golf Club won by a score of 12-to-1, marking the second straight week in which TGL saw a blowout result. Woods, as he said, did not have his best stuff. He airmailed a wedge on the second virtual hole and found the water on another. But he was not the only one who struggled. One could make similar statements about his teammate Kevin Kisner, who created a viral moment that may never be topped.
On the 14th hole, Kisner hit a cold-blooded shank from the bunker that rifled off the flagstick, leaving Woods doubled over and dying laughing. Max Homa could not breathe either as Kisner’s shot made a loud smack off the flagstick. He then almost holed the comebacker, which would have been an otherworldly par save.
“That was one of the funniest moments I’ve ever seen, Kis hitting that shot like that,” Woods said.
“We were just dying.”
Unfortunately for Kisner, he had some other low moments. He hit many shots short and right, finding the virtual penalty area occasionally.
“It’s just a weird sensation to stand there, and you’ve got 100 yards, or one time I had 55 yards, and it’s just that enormous screen you’re looking at, and it’s just different,” Woods said.
“We can learn from that, and hopefully, in a couple of weeks, we will not hit the ball into so many penalty areas, drop, and play better.”
Woods’ team will have to re-group if they want to contend in any TGL matches going forward. They fared poorly in their debut, but at least they entertained golf fans far and wide. Woods’ entrance song drew plenty of attention, and so did Kisner throughout. Kisner even offered to switch places with Charlie Woods, who made a hole-in-one at the PNC Championship last month.
No wonder why NBC Sports offered Kisner their full-time analyst role. He’s hilarious and knows what to say and how to act to meet the moment. He was the star of the show, even though Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, and Justin Rose of Los Angeles dominated his team.
“[Woods] is not going to be happy about this. I know he’s not going to be happy about this,” Theegala said.
“He’s going to be grinding his ass off to make sure this doesn’t happen again. I can pretty much assure you that this won’t happen again. They’re going to bring it. But it’s nice to have one, one little thing over Tiger. It’s really nice.”
