Vinci on course for expansion of Ryder Cup resort in West Midlands

Vinci Building is carrying out the expansion and renovation of the Belfry Hotel and Resort in the West Midlands.

Construction News understands the deal is worth approximately £40m to the contractor.

Work is underway on the project that will see the Warwickshire resort, best known for having hosted the Ryder Cup four times, gain an 852 square metre event space to help it target the luxury venue market.

As well as the new Masters Suite, Vinci Building is delivering an adjoining new wing that will provide 149 new guest rooms and suites over four storeys.

The work, which also includes highway improvements, is due to be completed in autumn 2025, Vinci announced last Friday (19 April).

Targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating, the project includes solar panels, energy efficient lighting, water saving shower heads and taps, and 80 additional electric vehicle charging points.

It plans to divert 100 per cent of waste from landfill and is scheduled to achieve a 10 per cent biodiversity net gain, the resort said.

Improvements as part of a wider redevelopment scheme are already complete, including the refurbishment of more than 300 existing bedrooms and the building of two new outdoor event spaces.

Renovation of the Belfry has been in the works since the resort was acquired by Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Cedar Capital Partners in 2021.

Vinci Building regional director Tony Grindrod said the firm would draw on its experience in the hotel and leisure sector to ensure the project was a success.

“Seeing the frame of the building take shape over the past few weeks has been exciting and the team will continue to work hard to deliver this project on time and on budget,” he said.

The project was designed by architects EPR and interior designers FIG, with work finalised by local architects Corstorphine & Wright Ltd.

Earlier this month, Vinci Building scooped a £138m contract to build an open-die forge in Sheffield for Ministry of Defence-owned Sheffield Forgemasters.
